Kiting in the Hebrides
With the finest, cleanest and largest sandy beaches in Europe, unhindered winds, long, long summer days and some of the most unspoilt and dramatic landscapes in the world, the Hebrides is a dream for kiting and kite surfing.
Throughout the Hebrides you'll find long, flat beaches, that lend themselves perfectly to the sport, and for the surf kiters, our surf is the most consistent in Europe.
If you are a novice, then start out in low winds - you'll be amazed at the power if you generally kite in more sheltered climes.
The Outer Hebrides are a superb location for kite surfers. From flat water, shallow lochs and bays to beachs with great surf breaks, it offers something for every level and style of rider. The crystal clear unpolluted waters here are kept warm by the Gulf Stream. Whatever direction of wind there will be a perfect spot not too far away.
Kite surfing is a growing sport on the islands. The Isles of Lewis & Barra now have kiting specialists willing to teach kiting and offer support to kiters coming to the isles to experience the freedom offered by the empty beaches.
The Outer Hebrides offers the type of scenery and location comparable to the Caribbean, although not quite so warm. With wind speeds that average 12 to 15 knots, the thrill of kite surfing in one of the most unspoilt and remote locations in the British Isles is an experience not to be missed.
