Cycle Hebrides
Cycle Hebrides is an exciting new campaign to raise the profile of the Hebridean islands of Lewis, Harris, Benbecula, the Uists and Barra as a fantastic must-do cycling holiday destination. Take an exotic cycling adventure hopping across islands on the edge of Europe!
Cycle Hebrides is be the launch pad for the new Hebridean cycling route, when it goes online in March 2002. The Hebridean cycle route is an exciting long distance challenge route, island hopping and cycling from Barra in the south through South Uist, Benbecula and Harris and finally up to the Butt of Lewis. The quiet island roads, considerate drivers and stunning scenery provide the perfect backdrop for this challenging route.
As for "apres cycle" - traditional music, food, drink, events - in the Hebrides there are loads to choose from! Although it may not be the first thing you associate with the Hebrides, the islands have a great range of restaurants, bars and a vibrant social scene. You can choose from many restaurants that serve local seafood, lamb, and the famous Stornoway black puddings, as well as Thai, Chinese and Indian, and bars to suit all types of character! Ceilidhs are common in all the islands throughout the year, and in the summer months traditional agricultural show dances are an experience that must be had! There is always something to do here, so whether you prefer to relax over a nice meal in your guest house, watching the sunset over the Isle of Taransay, or mix with the locals in the bars, clubs and restaurants, the Hebrides has something for you.
Cycle Hebrides provides you with all the information you need on distances, what to see, where to stop, travel, accommodation, support services, guides, and suggested itineraries, as well as links to organised cycling package holidays for those that like to cycle in a group.
