Climbing in the Hebrides

Unspoilt and Undiscovered...

The significance of the quality climbing in the Hebrides is yet to become known by the vast majority of climbers. The hidden secret is that climbing and abseiling enthusiasts have got it made in the Hebrides. On land, the oldest rock in the world dots the surface in a landscape awesome in its emptiness. Where else in Britain is there so much unclimbed rock to be scaled? From sea cliffs to mountain crags, it is all waiting to be discovered, and named!

There is only one company specialising in climbing and abseiling in Lewis and Harris, Sgor, www.sgor.co.uk, +44 (0) 1851 820726, tim@sgor.co.uk.

Seatrek can offer access to sea stack climbs all over the Outer Hebrides, including expeditions to previously unclimbed stacks at Mingulay south of Barra: www.seatrek.co.uk, +44 (0)1851 672464, webmaster@seatrek.co.uk

Uist Outdoor Centre can take you rock climbing or abseiling from sea cliffs and crags around North Uist and further a field: www.uistoutdoorcentre.co.uk, 01876 500 480, info@uistoutdoorcentre.co.uk

The Scaladale Centre in Harris can also offer abseiling among many other activities: www.scaladale.co.uk, 01859 502502, scaladale@ukonline.co.uk
